Summary: In class, we worked on the presentation guidelines and designed your slideshow so that you could be successful.

Guidelines for your MLA Proposal Presentation Draft that are not included in the document.

1. Your talk should last 8-10 minutes, followed by 3-5 minutes for questions, comments, and answers.

2. It is good to practice your presentation several times by videoing yourself to see how you are doing and make improvements.

3. There are usually 16 to 20 slides.

1. Do your best to prepare a draft for your presentation slideshow. The presentation guidelines’ Word document is helpful to follow while adding content and your script in notes in PowerPoint, based on synthesizing your notes. 

If you have not written all 5 Write & Improve essays and resubmitted them at least three times, please complete them before Workshop_14 so I can check them. You can choose the essays and the time of writing freely, and you can try to improve your score by accepting the suggestions in the program.

The final draft is due by 1 p.m. before class:

1. Please use the correct draft I sent you and accept the track changes.

2. If you are referring to your readings and it is not your original idea, please do an in-text citation of the author’s last name and page or paragraph number like this (Suzuki 22) or (Tanaka, This is a pen sec. par. 3) at the end of the sentence before the period.

3. Your paper needs to be typed with double-spaced lines, and at least 1,100 words and no more than 1,500, so please use the word count tool in Microsoft Word and type the word count number at the end of your paper before the Works Cited section, like this:

The educational tutorial about being safe during COVID-19 is informative. And the English vocabulary sections have so many levels that you can challenge yourself. Thank you, United Nations, and the World Food Programme

Rachel’s English: This website is an excellent fluency resource bank for English learners and their teachers. There are over 500 free videos available on English pronunciation and spoken English. Rachel’s videos, t have received over 70 million views, and way over 1 million subscribers are particularly useful because she not only explains the pronunciation and and supportive position of your mouth to speak well, she also shows the phonetic spelling and that help improve listening comprehension. She has helped me teach English US pronunciation and provides courses at Rachel’s Academy. Rachel also seems to love learning other languages, which adds to her immense knowledge as a teacher and a learner, too. She can help you immediately.

Presenters’ Homework for Class 13 due by Sunday 5 p.m.:

1. Choose the best graded reader that you have already taken notes on to make your Super Book Talk presentation. 

2. Review these loose Super Book Talk Guidelines. The goals are to:

-Do the Super Book Talk task
-Use a variety of sentences with some challenging vocabulary summarized by you
-Use of relevant and accurate details that show you read the book
-Demonstrate a complete understanding of the book you read
-Make inferences (guessing about the text) from the book and have a clear focus
-Easy to listen to with a sense of voice and explore the acting of characters’ voices.

3. Digital sharing is best like PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Prezzie. 

4. Please email me with your attachment, or put your file in our shared Google file, and I will be notified. 

5. There are some examples of Super Book Talk presentations from another university.

6. Please do not copy/paste the words from the book. It is better to summarize as best you can in your own words. However, if there are some really cool phrases or sentences from the book you would like to share, please use “quotation marks.”

8. The title of the book, the author’s name, and your name need to be included.

9. Usually, each Super Book talk should last five to seven minutes, with time for questions and answers from the audience. 

10. Also, could you remember to make a thank you, question, and answer page at the end. 

If your listening and reading  homework entries are not finished, please upload them to your Google Drive Shared file before Class 13 on Friday at 1 p.m.: Please upload pictures of your notes in your Shared Google file under the section “第 12回 Cycle 2 Sharing News Stories & Graded Readers 8.”

In the Spring Semester, you do out-of-class listening (10 times, about two pages each time) and read and talk about a minimum of 8 graded readers from the Chuo Library’s Maruzen eBook Library of graded readers. Please see the links and instructions below. The main thing is to do some homeworkin every class. You can do it little by little at your own pace.

By note-taking, please feel free to use charts, diagrams, and colors as you like. Then, can you take pictures of them and put them in your shared drive file with me? 

The Steps for the Graded Readers in The Maruzen eBook Library “6 Spring Semester: Downloading and reading e-books” in the links above and below are very important to follow. Please download your book quickly and save it because we can only download one book at Chuo University at a time.

‘Your Name’_AEW1_2nd Draft

1. Please download the ‘MLA and Works Cited’ MS Word document attached below and type directly into the paper.

2. Using your ideas from the five questions you have made and the five articles you have taken notes on. Please refer to the formatting guidelines and the MLA Sample Paper, also attached below. It is important to write all of the five sections after your introduction and the conclusion, so all of your essay. Please use your time wisely. 

3. If you are referring to your readings and it is not your original idea, please do an in-text citation of the author’s last name and page or paragraph number like this (Suzuki 22) or (Tanaka par. 3) at the end of the sentence before the period. 

4. In the first paragraph of the introduction, you write about why you are doing this research, and in the last sentence, you write your topic thesis statement: This essay discusses ______, __________, ________, ________, and _________.

5. In the second paragraph of the introduction, you will write your paper in one paragraph using each of the five sections of your paper. This paper describes ___________ (the issue, which is similar wording to the title). Then, you will write using vocabulary like, “In the first section, _______. Then, in the second section, _______ . Next, in the third section,” or “firstly, secondly, thirdly” for all five of your sections. 

6. Your paper needs to be typed with double-spaced lines, and at least 900 words and no more than 1,200, so please use the word count tool in Microsoft Word and type the word count number at the end of your paper before the Sources Cited section, like this:

7. Please make sure that your name, draft number, AEW course name, date, and title are in the attachment file  like this:

8. Please put your paper through Write & Improve in the “MLA Essay Paper Checker” entry. It should take two or three tries to do this because Write & Improve only takes about 600 words at a time.
