Session 01: Course Orientation & TOEIC Test Part 1 Photos

Note: Students who were absent can pick up their class prints to do the homework, which is in the box on my office door.

Summary: There was an orientation to the course explaining the documents below, including what is expected of you in the sessions and how you can excel and get the most out of this course to improve your English skills.

Documents: GES Listening & Reading.docx, Saitama University Listening & Reading Log.docx, Syllabus.docx

Homework due on April 19th, 2017 at the beginning of class: After studying the TOEIC tips unit 1 at the outer columns of the text, take the mini-test B on page 11 problems 1~8, while keeping in mind the directions and the strategies used for understanding photos for the TOEIC Test provided. We will try the test again in the class by using photo clues to choose the correct sentences. Then write down your reflections in  your Listening and Reading Log for entry #1 in this format:

Plan: Which day, which practice task and how long?  Reflections: What did you do? How long for? What did you notice? How did you feel? New listening or reading goals?

TOEIC  TEST  Tips Part 1 (by Grant Trew):

  • Listen carefully to make sure the verb relates to the picture
  • Focus on the nouns and the verbs
  • Select the answers quickly
  • As you listen, echo or shadow the sentences
  • Understand natural English including reduced forms
