Session 5 on 10/27/2015: Analyzing Your Own Self-Talk Summary: After the announcement of the Halloween Party this coming Friday in the ERC, we got to review the video by Elizabeth Scott, a Stress Management Expert that was attached to our reading of her article: Stress and Improve Your Life With Positive Self-talk -Elizabeth Smith. Then, you discussed the homework in pairs while mentioning what self-talk strategies you do or might try. Following this activity, you took an inventory about what you generally say to yourself (of course everyday is not the same), when you face some daily situations, then shared only what you wanted to speak about with your pair. Lastly, you wrote refections about this class. Announcement: A Halloween Party will be held in the ERC on Friday, October 30th, 2015 from 3-5pm. Please brings some snacks and/or soft drinks and if you like, come in a costume as well. I will:)! Attachment: halloween-ERC SIGN_2015.ppt, Self-Talk Inventory 2015 (Note: The Time Table adapted from Prof. Andy Souter from his Time Audit activity) Homework due on 11/10/2015: 1. Option to complete an entry of self-study in your Four-Skills Log. The entry should be one hour in length or longer and please answer the questions completely: Which day, which practice task and how long? Reflections: What did you do? How long for? What did you notice? How did you feel? New speaking or listening goals? 2. As best you can for one week, please write down the self-talk that you have spoken to yourself various times of the day for one week by using the 1 Week Self-Talk Inventory pages 2 and 3. If you miss recording a day, we do not have class on November 3rd, so you can try recording some self-talk also during the first week in November. And since the inventory sheet is a large A3 size, you might want to record your voice or text the self-talk in your mobile phone with the date and time to make the process easy for you, then transfer the self-talk to your 1 Week Self-Talk Inventory worksheets later. In addition, if you could not complete the page 1 of the 1 Week Inventory Activity, could you complete it as soon as you can? |
