Session 3 on 10/13/2015: Metacognative Strategies for Students Summary: Firstly, you learned more about metacognitive strategies, which in simple words are learning about your learning and then taking actions to learn even more. Then we watched a short youtube video about Metacognition by Dr. Josh Walker: Brief Intro to Metacognition. Afterwards, we learned more about the overview of Chapter 8 in Manning and Payne (1996, p .153): This chapter gives students and teachers real ideas about metacongnative self-talk because teachers have tried these activities in the classrooms. The self-questions to ask ourselves are related to these statements: Knowledge of some kind of study that works well for you. Comprehension of the ways successful learners use self-talk. Application of using the teacher’s plans (if they have anyJ) to keep up great study habits. Analyses by looking at what kind of language skills are needed for your tasks. Synthesis where you get a rhythm and a routine about what you are learning and teaching yourself. Assessment (Evaluation) is very useful for taking a look at your study habits and wasted time to improve your learning by improving upon useful learning habits. Then, lastly you wrote written reflections on Session 3.
